This feature is currently available for all UK and US Stock Shipments and will be coming soon to all UK and US bundle sends. In the future, we will bring this across our warehousing network.
Previously, our estimated shipping cost was based on a fixed average for the send type and origin warehouse, which has the potential for inaccuracies. Now, we calculate the estimated shipping cost using the total weight of all items included in the shipment and the final destination, meaning that each order has a unique estimate based on the shipment's contents. Once the order is shipped and we have the final measurements, we will calculate the final charge.
When creating an order from the UK and US warehouse, you will see a dynamic shipping cost estimate that changes with the quantities and items included, along with the weights of each item.
We are aware that some item weights are currently inaccurate and can cause an inflation in the estimate. If you spot any weight inaccuracies, please raise a ticket with our support team so we can adjust the item weight and provide you with a more accurate estimate.
How does the estimate work?
We multiple the weight of each SKU by the quantity included, and then sum them up to have an estimated total weight.
Then, using the shipping destination we determine which zone to loop up pricing for.
Along with the service level selected or required, we take the weight, zone and service into our rate cards to determine the shipping cost estimate.
Once the order ships we receive the final package(s) true weight and dimensions, which we then use to calculate the true and final cost.
In the absence of an address, we base the estimate on shipping domestically to our offices. For the US this is shipping to New York, and for the UK this is shipping to London.
