Overview
Salesforce offers two main ways to track and measure your campaign efforts. If you're a Salesforce admin, the predicament of which method to use is likely not new to you! This article helps you understand the differences in tracking methods so you can decide how to measure your Reachdesk ROI.
Track Reachdesk activity in Salesforce
Where to see engagement
On a Contact or Lead record, you can see Reachdesk engagement in two places:
Campaign History: Shows membership and status (e.g., claimed vs. clicked).
Activity: Reachdesk logs interactions as completed tasks on the right side of the record.
Required configuration: mapping
To ensure data flows correctly, you must map your campaigns in Reachdesk:
Manual Campaigns: Go to the Sync with Salesforce tab > Select Salesforce Campaign > Setup Member Status Mapping.
Automated Campaigns: Go to the Sync gift activity section > Select Salesforce Campaign > Setup member status mapping.
Pro Tip: Automate your gift spend data
You can automate the syncing of gift costs to Salesforce so your ROI reports update without manual entry.
Go to Account > Integrations > Salesforce > Advanced Options.
Toggle on Sync campaign cost.
Enter the API names for the custom currency fields on your Lead, Contact, or Campaign Member objects. Note: Reachdesk updates these spend totals once every 24 hours.
Choose your Salesforce attribution method
How you measure ROI depends on how your Salesforce instance handles campaign attribution, but Salesforce provides two “out of the box” options:
Primary Campaign Source (single-campaign attribution)
Campaign Influence (multi-campaign attribution)
Option 1: Primary Campaign Source
This is dictated by the last associated campaign on a Lead (prior to conversion) or a Contact (when converted to an opportunity).
Behavior: This is hard-coded in Salesforce, so no setup is needed.
Flexibility: You can manually change this value on an opportunity after it's created.
Option 2: Campaign Influence (Multi-touch)
This allows you to associate an opportunity with multiple campaigns.
Setup: Go to Campaign Influence > Auto-Association Settings in Salesforce.
Rules: You can create rules to associate campaigns to opportunities created within a specific timeframe (e.g., 90 days).
Criteria: You can be specific, such as only associating when a campaign member is marked as
Responded = True.
Two important notes
Overlap: While independent, these features can overlap in their impact on opportunities. Some teams use one, some use both.
Contact Roles: Both methods rely on using Contact Roles on your opportunities.
Understanding Reachdesk Attribution Logic
For a Reachdesk gift to be attributed to a Salesforce Opportunity, the following "Matching Logic" must be met:
Contact Roles: The gift recipient must be added as a Contact Role on the Salesforce Opportunity.
Timing: The gift must be sent while the Opportunity is in an "Open" stage, OR it must have been sent within 3 months prior to the Opportunity being created.
