Connect Reachdesk MCP with ChatGPT (Personal Account)

Before you start

• Have access to a Reachdesk account with MCP early access. A Reachdesk admin can copy the MCP URL from Settings → API & MCP if you cannot see that tab.
• Use ChatGPT on the web in a personal account where Developer mode and Create MCP App are available. Availability and supported tools depend on your ChatGPT plan; OpenAI says personal Pro accounts can connect MCPs with read/fetch permissions in developer mode, while full read/write MCP support is available on eligible managed plans. Check OpenAI’s current availability guidance.
• Open both Reachdesk and ChatGPT in your browser. Sign in to the Reachdesk account you want to authorize.

Connection steps

STEP 1

Enable Developer mode in ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, open Settings → Security and login. Under Developer mode, switch on Developer mode. Read the warning before continuing: custom MCP apps can access data and perform actions according to the permissions you grant.

STEP 2

Start creating an MCP app

Go to Settings → Plugins. Select the + button and choose Create app. If ChatGPT opens the New Plugin upload dialog, select Create MCP App; you do not need to upload anything.

STEP 3

Copy the Reachdesk MCP URL

In Reachdesk, go to Settings → API & MCP. Under Reachdesk MCP, copy the Reachdesk MCP URL. The screenshot shows https://app.reachdesk.com/mcp; use the URL shown in your own Reachdesk account.

STEP 4

Configure the custom app

Back in ChatGPT, enter Reachdesk MCP as the name. Leave the optional icon and description blank if you prefer. Choose Server URL for the connection, paste your Reachdesk MCP URL, and select OAuth for authentication. Review the custom-server warning, tick I understand and want to continue, then select Create.

STEP 5

Connect your Reachdesk account

Open the newly created Reachdesk MCP app in ChatGPT and select Connect. On the Add Reachdesk MCP to ChatGPT screen, select Sign in with Reachdesk MCP. Complete Reachdesk sign-in if prompted.

STEP 6

Authorize ChatGPT in Reachdesk

Reachdesk shows the permissions requested by ChatGPT: Read and Write, subject to your Reachdesk role. Review the warning that ChatGPT is an unverified application. If you started this connection and trust the app, select Authorize.

Caution: If an authorization screen appears when you did not start this flow, select Deny and contact Reachdesk Support.

STEP 7

Choose when ChatGPT asks for permission

In ChatGPT, open Settings → Plugins → Reachdesk MCP → Permissions. Choose the level that suits you: Always ask prompts before reads or changes; Allow read tools allows reads without asking but prompts before changes. Allow low-risk tools is the displayed default. Allow all tools carries elevated risk because ChatGPT will not ask before using tools. The screenshot shows Allow all tools selected as an example; review and choose your own setting.

STEP 8

Review the tools and try a request

Return to Reachdesk MCP in Plugins to review the connected app and its available tools. Start a new chat, select or mention Reachdesk MCP, and try a read-only question such as “Show my recent gift sends in the past week?” The tools that run depend on your ChatGPT plan, app permissions, and Reachdesk role.

Troubleshooting

I cannot see API & MCP in Reachdesk

Ask a Reachdesk admin to copy the MCP URL or confirm that your account has MCP early access.

I cannot see Developer mode or Create MCP App in ChatGPT

Check that you are using ChatGPT on the web and that your personal plan supports the feature. ChatGPT availability and labels can vary by plan and rollout; refer to OpenAI’s current guidance.

ChatGPT shows an authentication error

Open Settings → Plugins → Reachdesk MCP and reconnect your Reachdesk account. Make sure you authorize the intended Reachdesk account.

A tool or action is unavailable

Review the app’s permissions and your Reachdesk role. Personal-plan MCP support may allow read/fetch tools only, even when the Reachdesk authorization screen lists Write. Check the current ChatGPT plan capabilities before expecting send or cancel actions.
