A ChatGPT Business workspace admin or owner can create the Reachdesk MCP app, test it, and publish it for the workspace. Each member then connects their own Reachdesk account. Allow about 5 minutes for the initial connection, plus any workspace review.
Before you start
- Apply for Reachdesk MCP early access. A Reachdesk admin needs access to Settings → API & MCP to copy the MCP URL.
- Use ChatGPT Business on the web. A workspace admin or owner must enable Developer mode and create and publish the custom app. Members cannot deploy it themselves.
- Keep Reachdesk and ChatGPT open, and sign in to the Reachdesk account you intend to authorize.
Connection steps
STEP 1
Start a custom MCP app in ChatGPT Business
As a workspace admin or owner, open your Business workspace settings and go to Apps or Plugins. Select Add → Create MCP App. If prompted, enable Developer mode for your own account. The menu in the screenshot is the Business starting point; labels may vary with the current ChatGPT interface.
ChatGPT Business → Add → Create MCP App
STEP 2
Copy the Reachdesk MCP URL
In Reachdesk, go to Settings → API & MCP. Under Reachdesk MCP, copy the Reachdesk MCP URL. Use the URL displayed in your own account; the screenshot shows https://app.reachdesk.com/mcp
Reachdesk → Settings → API & MCP → Reachdesk MCP URL
STEP 3
Configure and scan the app
Name the app Reachdesk MCP, paste the server URL, and choose OAuth authentication. Review the custom MCP warning. In the Business creation flow, select Scan Tools and wait for the scan to finish; complete the Reachdesk sign-in and authorization prompt if it appears during scanning. Then select Create. ChatGPT places the new app in the workspace Drafts list. The exact order of OAuth and tool scanning can vary by interface.
STEP 4
Authorize ChatGPT in Reachdesk
Reachdesk asks for Read and Write permissions according to your Reachdesk role. Review the unverified-application warning. If you started this connection and trust the app, select Authorize. If the screen appears unexpectedly, select Deny and contact Reachdesk Support.
Reachdesk → Authorize ChatGPT
STEP 5
Test and publish the app for your workspace
Open a new ChatGPT conversation and select or mention the draft Reachdesk MCP app. Try a read-only request, such as asking for your gift sends for the past week. Then go to Workspace settings → Apps → Drafts and select Publish. Review the available actions and safety warnings before making the app available to members. Business admins and owners publish the app; a draft is visible only for developer testing.
STEP 6
Have each member connect Reachdesk
After publication, each user in ChatGPT has to connect with the Reachdesk MCP app. Go to Settings > Plugins > Look for "Reachdesk" in the search plugins bar. Click on the "+" next to the Reachdesk plugin and you will see the modal below:
Click on "Continue to Reachdesk" and you will see the modal below. Make sure you are logged into your Reachdesk account. Click on Authorize.
Each user who has connected should see Reachdesk as an option when starting a chat and select it when they want to use it. They can also just type what they want in the chat and ChatGPT should know to use Reachdesk if it relates to gifting.
What differs from a personal account
- Business has an admin setup and publishing stage. Members connect only after the app has been published for the workspace.
- The Business creation flow includes a tool scan and may request OAuth during that scan.
- Full MCP read and write actions are rolling out in beta to eligible Business workspaces. Actions remain limited by each person’s Reachdesk role and the workspace app controls. ChatGPT may ask for confirmation before changes.
- At launch, a published Business app cannot be edited in place to change its tools or metadata; an admin may need to recreate and republish it.
Troubleshooting
I cannot see "Create MCP App"
Confirm that you are an admin or owner in the intended Business workspace and that Developer mode is enabled for your account. Check Workspace settings → Apps or Plugins and the current ChatGPT availability guidance.
I cannot see API & MCP in Reachdesk
Ask a Reachdesk admin to confirm early access and copy the MCP URL.
The app is not visible to members
Check that an admin or owner has published the draft and that workspace access to the app is enabled. Each member still needs to connect their own Reachdesk account.
A tool or authentication call fails
Reconnect the intended Reachdesk account. If a tool definition changed after publishing, an admin may need to review the app again. Check the member’s Reachdesk role and workspace action controls. Refer to OpenAI guidance on Developer mode and MCP apps
