Shipping to India – Customs & KYC Requirements
When shipping to India, the very first step is Know Your Customer (KYC) verification.
Indian customs requires the recipient in India to submit KYC documents no matter the value. Without KYC, customs clearance cannot begin.
Once KYC is submitted:
Shipments valued under $1,359 USD – FedEx/UPS can complete customs clearance directly on behalf of the recipient.
Shipments valued over $1,359 USD – The recipient must appoint a non-FedEx customs broker to complete clearance.
How Reachdesk Helps
As soon as the Airway Bill (tracking link) is generated, Reachdesk automatically triggers an email to the recipient.
The recipient clicks through to the FedEx/UPS portal, enters the Airway Bill number, and uploads their KYC details.
This ensures the shipment can enter India smoothly, with minimal delays.
Important Sending Guidance
If the recipient cannot provide business KYC documents, always ship to their private/residential address.
Leave the company field blank for all shipments to India.
⚠️ If the recipient does not complete KYC in the FedEx/UPS portal, customs will hold the shipment and storage charges/delays are likely.
