To ship items outside your warehouse's trade zone (noted in our Warehouse Costs Rate Card), you'll need to add some essential details for customs authorities to process your shipment.
How to Add Customs Details
You can add customs details to a new or existing item in your inventory.
-
From the item's page, navigate to the Customs details tab.
-
Turn on the Ship this item outside of the warehouse's trade zone toggle.
-
Fill in the required fields that appear:
-
Tariff or Harmonized (HS) Code: A 10-digit number that customs officials use to classify the product being shipped and determine the correct duties and taxes.
-
Manufactured In: The country where the item was originally produced or assembled.
-
Unit Cost (exc. tax) & Currency: The value of a single item. Customs officials may ask for proof of this cost if they think it's incorrect.
-
-
Tick the confirmation box to acknowledge that this information will be used for customs declarations.
- Click Save Item.
Finding a Tariff (HS) Code
Here are a couple of easy ways to find your item's harmonized code.
Use Our AI Suggestion Tool
If AI is enabled on your account, just click the Suggest with AI button. We'll generate up to three suggestions based on your item's name and description. You can hover over a code to see more details, and simply click on the one you want to use.
Use External Lookup Tools
You can also use these online tools to determine the tariff code of your item:
💡 Pro-Tip: Your item supplier can usually provide you with the correct harmonized code.
Checking Your Items Status
Once you've saved the details, you can quickly check if your item is ready for international shipping.
- Navigate to Warehousing > Inventory.
- You'll now see a "Customs" column for each item.
- If it says "Yes", your item can be included in bundles sent outside the warehouse's trade zone.
